Bear's Journey

Writer's picture: Adrian RybickiAdrian Rybicki

Meet Bear - He is a beautiful black lab who started out loving life, top of class during our puppy course. Has a great family home and is incredibly affectionate.

Unfortunately Bear was attacked by an off lead dog during his adolescent period which set off a chain of events which lead to a few problem behaviours.

After this traumatic experience Bear's behaviour dramatically changed causing a lot of obstacles, some of the behaviours that had developed included -

Reactivity to people

Reactivity to dogs

Nervous around vets

Anxious on walks

Speeration anxiety

Under socialisation

This all may seem a little hard to believe it was from one incident but we can attest that Bear was a happy go lucky confident dog during puppy course and his follow on courses. He was the last dog that you would expect to develop these behaviours, it just goes to show what a traumatic event can do.

Over the last few months we have worked on Reactivity, anxiety, meeting new dogs and people and he has come on more than anyone expected. It has took time, dedication and training but we are at a stage now where he rarely displays the behaviours.

A massive well done to Bears family and the rest of the team at Build a bond who have helped guide him with our Behaviour sessions, 1-2-1 training, social sessions and classes.
